This story comes out of Salem, Massachusetts, rather than Alabama. However, cases like this have been prosecuted in Alabama in the past and probably will be brought again in the future. Is this the future trend of parental prosecution?
A mother accused of withholding cancer treatment from her autistic son was indicted in Essex County in Salem, Massachusetts. Kristen LaBrie entered pleas of not guilty to charges of attempted murder, permitting serious bodily injury to a disabled person, child endangerment, and permitting substantial bodily injury to a child. LaBrie's son, Jeremy Fraser, was diagnosed with non-Hodgkins lymphoma in 2006. He died in March of 2009 at the age of nine.
